Cookie Policy
This Cookie Policy explains what cookies are, how the CESRA website (cesra.org) uses them, and what choices you have. It should be read alongside our Privacy Policy.
1. What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files that a website places on your device (computer, tablet or smartphone) when you visit it. They are widely used to make websites work efficiently, remember your preferences, and provide information to website operators.
Cookies set by the website you are visiting are called “first-party cookies”. Cookies set by other organisations (for example, to deliver content from their servers) are called “third-party cookies”.
2. How CESRA uses cookies
The CESRA website uses only strictly necessary cookies. These are cookies that are essential for the website to function correctly — without them, services like the Member Portal cannot work.
We do not use:
- Advertising or targeting cookies
- Analytics cookies (e.g. Google Analytics)
- Social media tracking cookies
- Performance or preference cookies beyond what is strictly required
Under the UK Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR), strictly necessary cookies are exempt from the consent requirement. We use them only to the extent necessary to provide the services you have requested.
3. The cookies we use
The following first-party cookies are set by WordPress when you log in to the Member Portal. They are not set for general visitors who do not log in.
| Cookie name | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
wordpress_[hash] |
Used to authenticate you within the WordPress admin area and Member Portal. Contains an encrypted login token. | Session (deleted when you close your browser) |
wordpress_logged_in_[hash] |
Indicates that you are logged in and identifies your user account, keeping you logged in between page loads. | Session / up to 14 days if “Remember me” is selected |
wordpress_test_cookie |
A temporary cookie used to check whether your browser accepts cookies. Deleted immediately after the check. | Session |
wp-settings-[user_id] |
Stores interface preferences for administrators. Not set for regular members or general visitors. | 1 year |
4. Google Fonts
Our website uses Montserrat and Inter typefaces, currently loaded from Google’s font delivery network at fonts.googleapis.com. This is not a cookie, but it is a third-party request: when your browser loads a page, it contacts Google’s servers to retrieve the font files, and in doing so, your IP address is transmitted to Google.
Google states that it does not set cookies via Google Fonts and does not use font delivery data for advertising or to build user profiles. The data (IP address and browser headers) is used solely for delivering the fonts and is retained briefly for security and abuse prevention.
For full details, see Google’s Google Fonts Privacy FAQ.
We are working to self-host these fonts locally so that no data is transferred to Google when you visit our website.
5. Your cookie preference notice
When you first visit the CESRA website, you will see a cookie notice at the bottom of the page. This notice is informational — it lets you know what cookies we use and links to this policy. Dismissing the notice records your acknowledgement in your browser’s local storage (not a cookie) so the notice is not shown on every subsequent visit.
Because we use only strictly necessary cookies, there is no “accept” or “reject” choice to make — these cookies cannot be switched off without breaking key website functionality.
6. Managing cookies
You can control and delete cookies through your browser settings at any time. Please note that disabling cookies will prevent you from logging in to the Member Portal.

7. Changes to this policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time, for example if we add new features to our website. Any changes will be published on this page with an updated date. We recommend checking this page periodically.
