Build Your Career in Refrigeration & Air Conditioning
CESRA supports professionals at every stage of their career — from school leavers taking their first steps, to experienced engineers with decades of expertise still shaping the industry.
Starting Out
Whether you're still at school, considering a college course, or just starting your first year as an apprentice — the refrigeration and air conditioning industry offers fantastic long-term career prospects. It's a skilled, hands-on profession with growing demand driven by the net-zero transition, heat pump roll-out, and ever-tightening F-Gas regulations.
Qualified & Growing
You've earned your F-Gas certificate, completed your NVQs, and you're building real-world experience. This is the ideal time to formalise your professional standing, start accumulating CPD hours, and connect with the wider industry through CESRA membership. An active professional network opens doors to better opportunities, training, and industry insights.
Advancing Your Career
With years of experience behind you, you may be ready to move into technical leadership, specialist consultancy, or management. The MCESRA post-nominal designation recognises your expertise and commitment to professional standards. Giving back by mentoring the next generation is one of the most rewarding things you can do at this stage of your career.
Become a Trainer or Assessor
Experienced engineers are in high demand as workplace assessors, trainers, and college lecturers. Gaining a TAQA qualification (formerly D32/D33 or A1 units) enables you to formally assess NVQ and SVQ candidates in the workplace. Opportunities exist with private training providers, FE colleges, manufacturer training centres, and refrigerant distributors. It’s one of the most meaningful moves you can make at this stage — and CESRA Approved Training Providers will carry a quality mark that sets them apart when hiring.
FCESRA — Fellow of CESRA
FCESRA is the highest recognition CESRA can bestow — awarded by personal invitation to individuals who have made an outstanding and sustained contribution to the refrigeration and air conditioning industry. Fellowship cannot be applied for; it is conferred by the Board in recognition of exceptional service, leadership, and dedication to the profession. Achieving MCESRA places you among the professionals from whom future Fellows may one day be invited.
Your Experience Still Counts
Retired or semi-retired from hands-on work? Your knowledge, judgement, and networks are genuinely valuable to the industry. Many companies — from sole traders to national contractors — value experienced consultants on a flexible, project-by-project basis. CESRA's Mentorship programme lets you guide the next generation, while our Consultant Register connects you with businesses seeking specialist expertise.
